| When: | On Tuesday afternoons 2:00 pm-4:00 pm we meet on 3rd Tuesday of the month. |
| Venue: | Crosfield Hall Annexe |
This group meets monthly in The Annexe at the Crosfield Hall. Members investigate and share knowledge on topics which have included, Islands, Chalk, Greenland, Borders and Frontiers, Guatemala and The Age of the Earth. We occasionally have invited speakers and are also working our way through the old but excellent BBC Earth Story series.
We have taken field trips to Kimmeridge Bay, Mells River Valley in Somerset and the Trundle on the South Downs but our most recent excursion involved a more modest tour of Romsey Abbey and discussion of its geographical significance.
Please email the Group Leader if you would like to know more, or to come for a trial visit to see what goes on, using the link above.
A Flavour of 2025
Our meetings ranged from journeys into deep time, with our continuing BBC Earth Story series and with ‘The Highland Controversy’ about the geology of northwest Scotland; to the very topical, ‘Deep-sea Mining – economic necessity or environmental disaster?’ and a team presentation on Greenland. We vote for three team topics each year and break into self-selecting groups who cover them jointly. We might not be world experts but we enjoy working together with different people and it’s easier covering a topic as part of a team. Islands was one team’s subject and we also enjoyed a member’s talk about Macaronesia (Canaries, Cape Verde, Madeira and the Azores). Silk Roads and Rivers were the final topics for the year.
