The Speaker Andrew Negus is a retired history teacher and around the world backpacker, a Blue Badge Guide and local historian, who keeps
chickens, bees and daughters! Andrew explains how and why Winchester grew from a collection of Iron Age huts into the splendid and artistic capital of England. He introduces us to Saints Birinus and Swithun, Kings Alfred, Canute, William The Conqueror and the irrepressible Queen Emma. Then there are the rich and crafty bishops, who created magnificent buildings including 2 minsters, 2 abbeys and the longest cathedral in the world.
